Over the years, we've tried to give you some pointers. Let's review the most important. 1. HO and N Scale modelers be sure to Solder the track joints; no ifs, no ands, no buts, just do it. This applies to those of you with permanent or semi-permanent layouts! 2. Clean the tracks regularly in all scales. This should be done by everyone regardless of scale, size, or status. 3. Power feeds every 10-12' of track. 4. Keep those batteries charged in your O-Gauge engines. Lube every 40-50 hours of run-time. 5. Check wheel gauge and coupler height on all HO models. Don't assume anything. 6. Use transitions on all grades. 7. Read the instruction manuals. 8. Get any repairs for Christmas in early. 9. If you are using any old Lionel transformer to run the new trains, save yourself some heartache and come in to get a surge protector quick-blow fuse combo. 10. O and G Gauge layouts, The bigger you get, the more power feeds are needed to over come voltage drop. We suggest adding a power feed for each 10 -12 feet of track added . If you are having trouble with voltage drop around switches be sure all sides of the switch have feeders O Gauge don't forget to feed both ground rails when using MTH, GARGRAVES , ROSS SWITCHES and ATLAS Track . The outside ground rails are not tied together like Lionel tubular or FastTrack.
