Bill's Tips & Tricks

Updated: May 17, 2020

Over the years, we've tried to give you some pointers. Let's review the most important. 1. HO and N Scale modelers be sure to Solder the track joints; no ifs, no ands, no buts, just do it. This applies to those of you with permanent or semi-permanent layouts! 2. Clean the tracks regularly in all scales. This should be done by everyone regardless of scale, size, or status. 3. Power feeds every 10-12' of track. 4. Keep those batteries charged in your O-Gauge engines. Lube every 40-50 hours of run-time. 5. Check wheel gauge and coupler height on all HO models. Don't assume anything. 6. Use transitions on all grades. 7. Read the instruction manuals. 8. Get any repairs for Christmas in early. 9. If you are using any old Lionel transformer to run the new trains, save yourself some heartache and come in to get a surge protector quick-blow fuse combo. 10. O and G Gauge layouts, The bigger you get, the more power feeds are needed to over come voltage drop. We suggest adding a power feed for each 10 -12 feet of track added . If you are having trouble with voltage drop around switches be sure all sides of the switch have feeders O Gauge don't forget to feed both ground rails when using MTH, GARGRAVES , ROSS SWITCHES and ATLAS Track . The outside ground rails are not tied together like Lionel tubular or FastTrack.

Store Front Remains Closed due to COVID

For the Safety of our loyal customers and staff, the Ready to Roll store front remains closed for in-store shopping. However, we are working hard to process and ship your orders each day. Please fee

New Customers: When placing your order, we require a valid credit card at the time of the order that will be used to fulfill your order for shipping when received, but is not charged until the item actually arrives. If a credit card is NOT provided, then a nonrefundable 25% deposit will be necessary to secure your order. This is an unfortunate business decision that we have wrestled with for some time and are being forced to implement as a result of numerous recent order cancellations. Note regarding Local Pick-Up, Shipping or Charge & Hold: As a reminder to those picking up at the store, we try to notify you of its arrival a.s.a.p. and ask you to please pick it up within 14 days. If you want us to hold it for a later pick-up time, we will gladly hold it charging your credit card for the purchase; just let us know what you want to do. For our customers who have us
ship to you, we will hold several items to ship together to reduce shipping costs, charging your credit card for the held item(s).  Please remember we are a dealer and cannot be held accountable for delays in production, errors in printing, cost increases or product cancellations. The estimated delivery date is an estimate (at the time of catalog publication) for when the item is expected to ship. For updated shipping info, visit the MTH web site at and follow their link for the item.
